Do your studios come in different sizes?

Each studio is available in two sizes, 100 sqft feet, and 120 sqft. The overall style, materials, doors, and windows don’t change between model sizes, just the overall dimensions. We design our studios under 120 square feet so permits aren’t required, as long as backyard structure setbacks by each city are followed.
We will check with your local building department regarding setbacks, including maximum size requirements regarding a backyard “shed” or “accessory buildings”.

What does “Semi-Modular” construction mean?

All BUNKHOUS backyard studios are built partly in a shop and partly at the job site. The framing components are all cut in the shop, and sections of the walls, floors and ceiling are built then delivered to the site. Also, all the interior wall, and ceiling panels are CNC cut for precision and speed. All of these components are delivered to the site in phases during the build process, and assembled on site. There are still items cut and installed on site, but cutting parts in-house, helps keep the site build timeline to a minimum.

Does the studio require a foundation?

Our studios are installed onto a rebar reinforced concrete slab, which requires minimal excavation, and disturbance of the surrounding area. We install connecting hardware into the concrete to securely fasten our studios to the slab foundation.

Does BUNKHOUS build where I live?

Right now we build in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please contact us and let us know where you’re located and we will see if there is a way we can build one for you outside our area.
Our hope is to grow, so even if you’re not in the Bay Area, please let us know if you’re interested in owning your very own BUNKHOUS.

Can my backyard studio be a business tax right off?

Do I need to hire any other contractors during this process?

You will need to hire a certified electrical contractor to connect the studio to your home’s electrical panel. Each studio can be ran on a single 20amp circuit. However, we provide an exterior electrical box with two available circuits to connect to, in case you need to separate circuits for more power needs.
All other work is completed by BUNKHOUS from start to finish!

Can we customize our BUNKHOUS?

Of course! The overall size, dimensions, will remain the same. However, we offer additional interior and exterior finish options, upgrades such as custom cabinets, standing desks, interior window blinds, hide-away bed options, exterior deck options, and more!
